BLAST: Block Applications for Things

BLAST logo

BLAST (Block Applications for Things) is an open-source visual programming environment for building applications that interact with Web of Things (WoT) devices. Built on Blockly, it lets users assemble programs from blocks that read and write device properties, invoke actions, and subscribe to events, without needing to know the underlying communication protocols. Programs run directly in the web browser on desktops, smartphones and tablets.

The project is a TypeScript/JavaScript monorepo. Its core library extends Eclipse node-wot with Bluetooth and HID protocol bindings, bundled for Node.js and for the browser (via Web Bluetooth and WebHID). It also ships a collection of W3C WoT Thing Descriptions tested with BLAST. BLAST was presented as a demo at ESWC 2022.
